Mid-Century Modern is Al's 2016 release, his thirteenth on Sweetspot. After the soul influences of his last three discs, it returns to blues and classic R&B models from the middle of the 20th century: Louis Jordan, Buddy Johnson, Albert King, Slim Harpo - even Miles Davis. Featuring "Monster" Mike Welch on guitar, the Duke Robillard Band Rhythm section, and Roomful of Blues alumni horns, it has a guest spot by Duke himself on two songs.
